Esports as a business – this chaos needs to be controlled
The word “innovation” comes from the Latin novatio with the prefix in – in a dead language it means “in the direction of change.” And although the term appeared in science, now it is used in all spheres of activity. If esports is not flexible, and the leading companies refuse to change, the industry will begin to lose its position in the world – a long absence of changes leads to stagnation. Nowadays, esports performance is growing, but the interest of viewers and investors needs to be maintained. Therefore, specialists who can independently create, organize and optimize technological and business processes are needed, including in esports. Due to the specifics of the industry, which they mainly enter at a young age, there is a shortage of qualified personnel in esports.
Globally, esports covers a huge number of areas of activity, and every year there are more and more of them. Event organizers, marketing and advertising specialists, restaurateurs, designers, musicians, chefs and even engineers – almost any specialist can find work at least around e-sports, and, if desired, in the very epicenter of events. At the same time, the optimization of an esports organization or gaming company as a large business unit has a lot of room for work.
Now more and more people are starting to learn about eSports, many children want to become professional gamers, and people who used to spend their leisure time watching TV are happy to display matches of Dota 2 and CS: GO tournaments. However, not every company knows exactly how to monetize a potential audience, how to sell its product, why it is necessary to optimize internal and external processes and what economic models should be used in order not to be left out of the colorful gaming events. Many in this area cannot control the state, do not have the necessary models to solve a variety of tasks, use outdated methods of disseminating information within the company. And this despite the fact that esports is perhaps one of the most massive spheres of activity associated with modern technologies!
IOM RANEPA organizes internships and internships in leading Russian and foreign companies and departments: Rosatom, Lukoil, RF Ministry of Industry and Trade, Sibur, Bosch and others. Using the example of these giants, one can learn how to build the internal processes of e-sports holdings, monitor the personnel of organizations, and even introduce new methods in the management of event lighting studios. After completing an internship during training, you can tackle the first innovative project in the field of esports – the knowledge gained will be enough for this.
Development of leadership skills is one of the goals of higher education at RANEPA
Esports teams are not only the five players who shine at Dota 2 or CS: GO tournaments, but also people who come to the office every day to work out the brand development strategy, outline the organization’s budgets, hire new employees and do those things. without which any business cannot stand on its feet. This is a complex and multifaceted process that requires constant updating of existing practices … and a competent leader who can inspire employees to achieve results. Even if you are not a player, there is no magic in esports without a captain.
Skillful captains are needed to form a team that will support esports players. Usually there are two types of managers: some have received education, perhaps even polished their skills in other large firms and came with a positive background to share their experience; others have found their own optimal flight path by trial and error. The second method is extremely risky: the chance that one day the fuel will run out and the once eminent organization will crash on the rocks of bankruptcy is very high. For example, earlier employees of Vega Squadron, M19, Mustang Crew and other clubs told about the lack of funds for the maintenance of the rosters.
In 2023, only sheikhs from the UAE can consider the organization as a “club of interests”, and not a serious business. However, even their approach is already beginning to change: more and more transactions concluded on the territory of this country are focused specifically on increasing finances, and not on improving the image of investors.
The demand for business planners, directors and development and operational improvement managers, as well as project managers and innovators who can generate useful ideas for potential development, is growing everywhere. The skills that the IOM faculty of RANEPA promise to teach are quite easy to implement in the e-sports field. Upon completion of the bachelor’s degree, students will be able to:
- manage projects for the introduction of innovations in all spheres of the economy;
- participate in the development and implementation of strategies and programs for innovative business development;
- to form fundamentally new systems of collective management in organizations;
- create new high-tech businesses.
Nothing extra – just business
Many games have side quests, but not every side quest is fun. Many people don’t like to do them and only focus on the main chain, and good games don’t mind doing this. And there are annoying game mechanics that distract the user and prevent him from enjoying the main plot, constantly trying to sidetrack. Some games also abuse donation, increasing the cost of loot boxes or forcing more and more boxes to be bought. Among higher educational institutions, there are also “villains” who do not give the main thing – the maximum of specialized disciplines during training.
Students of institutes often suffer from strange educational programs: when they come to the creative department, they study economics and technical subjects, and in the exact sciences they suddenly meet local history or another rather useless course that is not related to the main specialty. At the IOM RANEPA, from the moment of acquaintance with a possible future specialty, they tell you about all the subjects that you will study as students of one direction or another.
On the undergraduate program “Technological Entrepreneurship”, students receive all the necessary skills – no one will run away from philosophy and ecology, this is the standard for any public education. However, all specialized subjects are an important key to the profession: innovation marketing, venture financing, enterprise economics and other disciplines will surely craft useful units for esports from students.
The choice of a specialty and a university is an important step in the life of every person. Cybersport.ru and IOM RANEPA tell you how you can connect your life with e-sports, having received a higher education, and you have to make the decision yourself. If you have firmly decided that esports is what you are interested in, but the Innovatics direction did not interest you enough, use our other tips on how how to choose higher educational institution.
On June 18, an admissions campaign was launched at the Institute of Sectoral Management, RANEPA. You can learn more about the directions and conditions of admission to the official website of the university…
