Cybersport.ru together with the Konstantin Khabensky Charitable Foundation continues a series of stories about children who were faced with a cancer diagnosis, but were able to overcome it. Our hero Zakhar Ovsyannikov defeated cancer – now he dreams of becoming a robot constructor. He told us about his favorite video games, dreams and plans for the future.
According to opinion polls, a third of Russians are sure that cancer is incurable and always leads to death. This stereotype is dangerous, because it often leads to late diagnosis of cancer. We want to change this. The Konstantin Khabensky Charitable Foundation, which helps children with cancer and other severe brain diseases, has launched a social project. Its purpose is to demonstrate that cancer is not a death sentence, it will # cure. As part of a social campaign, of which the project with Cybersport.ru has become a part, hundreds of people talk about how they defeated oncology. You can find out their stories on the website raklechitsa.ru.
From February to August 2011, Zakhar struggled with anaplastic ependymoma in the pineal region. Nine years later, in dialogue, he only casually mentions the diagnosis, and when it comes to the future profession and games with friends in GTA V, he really comes alive and laughs a lot.

How Zakhar and his friends played in GTA V
Zakhar graduated from the 10th grade. Two years ago, he moved from Togliatti to Moscow precisely because of his studies, he entered the lyceum at the Moscow State Technical University. N.E.Bauman.
Many people remember how they played Counter-Strike and other popular titles on school computers in computer science lessons. In Baumank, students have no time to be distracted – the program is stricter than in ordinary general education schools.
However, during breaks, serious lyceum students turn into ordinary children. Zakhar loves PUBG Mobile, played a lot of Minecraft and Angry Birds. He does not choose games too carefully: he can download, go through several levels and immediately delete.
Games for Zakhar are an opportunity to relax and spend some time with friends. The disease imposed some restrictions on this: he cannot sit at the computer for a long time. At first, his parents followed this, and now he himself says that he understands the risks associated with prolonged stress on the optic nerve.
The tumor clamped Zakhar’s optic nerve, and even after defeating the cancer, it was not possible to quickly restore vision. The teenager has to wear glasses and limit himself in time at the computer.
After the distribution of GTA V in the Epic Games Store, Zakhar and his friends decided to play with a big company. It was not easy, but very fun.
Disease is not a reason to give up
Zakhar doesn’t follow esports too much: he thinks it is “too serious.” But even despite this, he is familiar with the NAVI club – that’s what a cool “media” means. Most of all in the industry Zakhar is interested in the process of creating games and programming. He seriously thinks about how certain elements in games are made, because this is a little related to his future profession.
We asked his mother Galina about Zakhar’s choice of a future profession. She is sure: a difficult diagnosis is not the end of the world, and difficulties in her studies only educate her character. According to her, she and her son had already “walked along the edge of the abyss, balancing” – the fight against the disease lasted six months, and the “chemistry” was in parallel with radiation therapy. Now all problems in the family are greeted with optimism.
Galina Ovsyannikova admits that relatives have always looked after and supported Zakhar, but tried not to dwell on this. With age, my mother stopped giving him “indulgences” due to illness. Now she sincerely believes that her son is healthy. And most importantly, you must be happy.
Mom does not share her son’s passion for online games and tries to control the time he devotes to the computer. First of all, because of her eyes – she is not against games, but she does not want to underestimate the negative impact of the PC on the eyes.
Many deserve the chance to share their dreams and passions with a large audience. Feel free to talk about what you like! There is more good in the world than you might think. If you find it difficult – fight and know that there are many people who are ready to lend a helping hand.
Zakhar attended recreational rehabilitation events organized by the Konstantin Khabensky Charitable Foundation. Since 2008, the Foundation has been doing everything possible to ensure that children and adolescents with brain tumors receive all the necessary help on time and return to full life as soon as possible. The Foundation pays for diagnostics and treatment, works with parents, improves the qualifications of doctors, helps equip specialized departments of Russian medical institutions, and also organizes rehabilitation programs for wards and their family members. Everyone can help children – you can donate any amount by SMS to 7535 or via online translation…
