Best mobile Games of 2023 (April)

In January, the mobile game industry was not very rich in releases, but several interesting new products came out. Hardcore gamers will be able to appreciate the heiress of Dark Souls, fans of “Twin Peaks” – a quest inspired by the series, and for the real oldfages almost “the same” Tetris came out.

Tetris

The main gift of the Russian gamedev of the world gaming industry was almost always on mobile devices. However, there were few licensed products with the legal right to bear the name Tetris. Almost ten years on Android and iOS, EA rules were the ball, but in January the situation changed.

Electronic Arts did not renew the license, and two versions of Tetris disappeared from stores, and in April they will stop working altogether. They were replaced by an option from the N3TWORK studio. Of the pluses is the “bare” Tetris with the ability to install a classic eight-bit design. The game is devoid of breakthroughs of free-to-play troubles, and the only purchase available in it is disabling advertising. Of the minuses – you need to get used to the sensor, and the only mode can quickly get bored.

Pascal’s wager

Souls-like is a very popular genre among developers. Many of them are relentlessly trying to grab a piece of the hardcore gaming hangout, although only FromSoftware was able to achieve real success in this field.

Pascal’s Wager is not the first mobile version of Souls, but definitely one of the most ambitious. The game offers a full-fledged campaign, several classes and various bosses. The latter turned out according to the precepts of Miyazaki – terrible, inventive and not forgiving mistakes. Unfortunately, there were technical difficulties, and the release schedule is significantly inferior to the trailers.

Disgaea 1 Complete

The original Disgaea was released in 2003 on the PlayStation 2. Later, this JRPG was ported to several other platforms, and in 2018, its re-release with the subtitle 1 Complete was released. The average rating for a remake on the Metacritic aggregator is an impressive 83 points out of 100 from the press and 7.6 points out of 10 from users.

Disgaea 1 Complete is a classic Japanese RPG with turn-based battles, many heroes and a specific sense of humor. The story tells of the demon prince Laharl and his attempts to conquer the throne of the Underworld. Technically, this is the same version as on the PlayStation 4 or Nintendo Switch. Even the price is similar – ₽2,490.

Might & Magic: Chess Royale

It is difficult to say which of the trains left earlier and further – “Heroes”, autobuttlers or “royal battles”. However, Ubisoft tried to jump in three at once. The name speaks for itself, the publisher’s new game is a “royal battle” for 100 people in the universe of “Heroes of Might and Magic” according to the rules of the autobattlers.

Might & Magic: Chess Royale is not much different from the same Underlords. Familiar with the genre, users will understand it without difficulty, but for beginners, the game is quite welcoming. Despite the large number of declared players, they are eliminated after three defeats. Therefore, the matches do not last long – 10-20 minutes. Unfortunately, such mechanics deprives chess of depth based on long-term planning.

The white door

The White Door is a new game from the Rusty Lake studio, the fame of which was brought by the eponymous series of quests in the spirit of Twin Peaks. The comparison is not accidental: the developers openly declare that they were inspired by the work of David Lynch and tried to transfer to the games the audience’s familiar, uncomfortable mystical atmosphere of the series.

The hero of The White Door Robert Hill is suffering from amnesia and therefore lies in a psychiatric hospital. Day after day, he carries out the same black and white routine to remember who he was. And only in dreams are glimpses of the past revealed to him. The game turned out to be noticeably more story-oriented, but because of this the complexity of the puzzles suffered.

Maze machina

Maze Machina could be the progenitor of Hitman Go and other similar titles if it came out earlier. The principle of their work is similar – these are turn-based puzzles in which users and opponents simultaneously move along the game board.

The protagonist of Maze Machina is a mouse who needs to escape from a trap, which is a 4×4 field. Each cell corresponds to a specific object that can be used while on it. The player’s task is to find the key and open the exit. Enemies who move simultaneously with the hero in the same direction and can use the same weapons are responsible for the complexity.

MINImax Tinyverse

Mixing genres is a noble thing, sometimes from such experiments truly interesting games appear. It seems that all possible combinations have already been sorted out – there are action-RPGs, and loot-shooters, and so on. But it only seems so.

MINImax Tinyverse mixed casual RTS like Clash Royale and a god simulator. At first glance, everything is simple – two teams, two bases, spawn units and further down the list. But the main feature of the game is that it has indirect control. Instead of giving orders to the troops, we can only help them – build a wall somewhere, buff someone. All this is done quite literally by the “Hand of the Lord”, just like in Black & White. The only confusion is the free-to-play distribution model, which is usually followed by grind and paywalls.
