Global Strategy – Hearts of iron iv
Strictly speaking, Hearts of Iron IV is dedicated not so much to military operations as to the world of the middle of the 20th century. In a word, war will necessarily be the main theme of each party, but far from the only one. Foreign and domestic policy, development, trade and imperial ambitions will take you no less power than army management.
In Hearts of Iron IV, a player can lead any country on the planet – from the Soviet Union to a banana republic. As a ruler, you will control all aspects of the life of the state – ideology, production, diplomatic relations, military strategy, etc. This will allow you to reproduce the real story and completely rewrite it in the style of “A Man in a High Castle”.
Fit even the main features of Hearts of Iron IV in a couple of paragraphs does not work. This is a huge game in which a good hundred hours will be spent only on the development of a mechanic. She does not favor beginners, scares off a confusing interface, and her additions are several times more expensive than the main game. However, it will be very difficult to find a broader and more developed strategy about the main conflict of the 20th century.
Tactics – Broken Lines
When it comes to tactics and World War II, the first thing that comes to mind is the Commandos series, which has been around for over 20 years. Then I recall a couple of dozen titles of different quality. We will pay attention to the new product – Broken lines.
Firstly, the gameplay of Broken Lines resembles Frozen Synapse. Unlike most classmates, it is not real-time and not entirely turn-based. During a pause, the player issues orders to all fighters, after which he no longer affects their actions. The mechanics are not revolutionary, but bring a pleasant variety to the genre.
Secondly, Broken Lines is story-driven, and in order to see all the endings and completely unravel all the secrets, the game will have to go through several times. In addition to controlling soldiers, in battle the user will need to make various choices and monitor the morale of the soldiers, which is reflected in the gameplay characteristics.
Single shooter – Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus
Yes, events Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus occur not during the Second World War, but much later. However, since the main goal of any game in this setting is the extermination of the Nazis, this title is perfect for us. In addition, there are not very many worthy single-player shooters, in principle, and each of them should be doubly appreciated.
The New Colossus continues the events of The New Order – an alternative story, the Reich won, and Blaskowitz must fix it … in a wheelchair, or on a robop, or in a stealth, or with two machine guns at the ready. The plot turned out to be solid – with a fair amount of irony and trash, to the best of deep thoughts and wild fantastic assumptions.
The bulk of Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus gameplay is a shootout. Stealth, as noted above, is also there, and it can even be very beneficial. But to get complete pleasure you need to shoot. Blaskowitz’s trunks are not very numerous, but they are customizable and improved, because of this and a wide variety of enemies you won’t be bored.
