RE3 Remake review

RE3 Remake review

On March 19, the demo version of Resident Evil 3 Remake was released. At first glance, it seems that rethinking the third part almost completely copies Resident Evil 2 Remake – the same graphics, the same mechanics, only a few little things and other heroes. But in fact, everything is much more complicated. No, RE3 Remake can not be called the reskin of the second part, because it feels completely different.

I went through the demo several times and highlighted its key differences from its predecessor.

Jill is just a bomb

The player gets acquainted with the heroine through her dialogue with one of the characters

The remake of the atmosphere will be created not even by the Nemesis, but by Jill. She is the personification of the popular meme “strong and independent.” Constantly daring, manages to maintain icy calm and as if not at all afraid of what is happening. Against her background, Leon and Claire from Resident Evil 2 seem to be kids who fought off mom.

Jill’s combat knife will save ammo

The girl’s image has changed a lot since the original game. Then she was a frightened girl in a skirt and a topic, who was simply unlucky to be in Raccoon City’s nightmare. Now this is the real Lara Croft, only surrounded by zombies, not tombs. I won’t know how it all happened, but I liked it.

The gameplay is very similar to Resident Evil 2 Remake, but with serious differences

Do I need to explain what happens next?

If you remove Jill from any screenshot in this text and put Leon or Claire in her place, no one will guess the game. However, in the dynamics of the remakes of the second and third parts differ quite strongly. In RE3, there were much more opponents, and Jill meets the first zombie 30 seconds after the start of the demo.

Due to the larger number of zombies, more ammunition appeared on the locations, and the treasured shotgun can be found literally on the next street. And it is not even hidden behind a font or a combination lock – it is enough to open the shop window with nippers, and a powerful gun is already in hand. More exploding barrels and other items appeared on the streets, with which you can destroy a dozen zombies at a time.

Consequences of spectacular dodging and subsequent firing

Jill’s ability to jerk to the sides also affected the gameplay. If you press the button in time, the girl will effectively roll over from the attacking zombie, time dilation will turn on and the player will be able to shoot the dead man’s head. And so spectacularly explode with bloody debris! However, the timing is pretty thin – for the demo, I died ten times while trying to get the hang of it.

If the whole game will adhere to this pace, then the dynamics should be expected many times more. But because of all this, the remake did not turn into a shooter, for which they scolded Resident Evil 6. Many locations, closed paths and secrets are scattered around the locations – fans who will explore the level will always be rewarded.

1/2
The sequence is simple. We find the cache and a note with a hint, explore the area and look for the cipher

Even in the demo version, you can find and shoot 20 toy cats to get an achievement, and what will happen in the final version! Yes, and branded puzzles a la “find the code from the safe to get nishtyak” did not go away.

Palms sweat from the appearance of Nemesis

Nemesis can infect zombies and teach him to release a huge tentacle

But nothing is so firmly embedded in memory as the first meeting with the Nemesis. This monster is 50 times worse and more dangerous than the Tyrant from Resident Evil 2 Remake – now you can laugh at that.

What can Nemesis do? He runs, attacks with his arms and legs, can pull Jill with tentacles from a long distance and, finally, he can jump! Moreover, he jumps not just in height or on obstacles, but literally flies his feet forward into the area where the character runs – so he blocks the path.

No seriously, it will make you suffer

Even in the demo, a meeting with him made him nervous and focused on the maximum – it was scary to imagine what he would do after receiving a rocket launcher or flamethrower.

Judging by the demo, Resident Evil 3 Remake took all the best ideas from the second part, added dynamics to all this, but did not lose its depth. And more is not required of her. Now I look forward to the release even more – the game will be released on April 3 on PC, PS4 and Xbox One.
