Fighting is a beautiful and flexible genre of polarities. These are quite complex and deep games, the full study of which can take many weeks and months. At the same time, most people think that it is best to play fighting games at parties with something foamy or stronger. In short, these games are perfect for any mood. We selected the ten best representatives of the genre.

Mortal kombat 11
Among all fighting games, it is Mortal Kombat 11 that is most popular in Russia and the CIS countries. The roots of this go back to the 1990s, when every self-respecting kid knew how to throw a sub-Zero frost and Scorpio rope, and his favorite hobby was to gather at someone’s house and play Dandy. The elect even knew how to do fatality!
The series has gone through many ups and downs over the years. And the latest franchise game at the moment – Mortal Kombat 11 – is at its peak. With its creation, the studio NetherRealm literally broke everything that was in previous games, and built a completely new gameplay, which has almost no analogues among competitors.
Mortal Kombat 11 meets the user with an epic storyline campaign for many hours, where familiar characters sort things out and try to prevent the end of the world. The battles themselves have undergone many changes, the complete description of which will take me the same length of text. How does it catch players? Spectacular combos, many different skills of fighters, beautiful arenas with interactive objects, juicy fatalities, during which the enemy literally turns inside out, and, finally, an extensive list of fighters, in which there are both newcomers and everyone’s favorite characters. Mortal Kombat 11 is one of the richest fighting games to date.
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate
Super Smash Bros. – one of the pearls of Nintendo and the most popular fighting game in the world. The last game in the series so far has only been released on the Nintendo Switch and has won the hearts of millions of gamers. It just so happened that due to its history and exclusivity, SSB is known only to fans of the genre or owners of the Nintendo console.
Unlike any other fighting game you’ll come across in this text, Super Smash Bros. the player does not have a goal to kill the opponent as violently as possible. Here you just need to throw him off the arena, using all kinds of blows and skills of the characters for this. A strange and seemingly “childish” concept actually turns the battles into violent duels, which, by the intensity of passions, can easily plug the same Mortal Kombat 11 into the belt.
The character roster consists of the heroes of the Nintendo franchises familiar to us from childhood, and there are enough guests from other series of guests. In fact, this is the most powerful hodgepodge among all representatives of the genre: only in Super Smash Bros. you can find out if Pikachu is able to defeat Bayonetta. Cloud from Final Fantasy VII, Samus from Metroid, Link from The Legend of Zelda, Megaman from the series of the same name, Joker from Persona and who knows who else are here.
Injustice 2
Another NetherRealm Studios product, only this time the main characters are the familiar DC comics characters. Thanks to Injustice, we were able to find out for the first time whether Batman could defeat Superman and how much the Flash’s speed will help him in his battle against Catwoman.
Otherwise, Injustice 2 is very similar to Mortal Kombat, with one exception – the battles here are dispensed with a single drop of blood, and you will have to forget about the brutal fatality. Still, the publisher is aiming at an age rating of up to 18+.
Street fighter v
The Street Fighter series was born almost at the same time as the Mortal Kombat, and also did not stand still all this time. Game mechanics evolved in it, new fighters appeared, graphics were improved. At the same time, the series for a long time remained attractive only to advanced players who were able to understand its gameplay and begin to enjoy it. We can say that it was in the fifth part that Capcom corrected this flaw and opened Street Fighter for everyone.
The combinations in Street Fighter V, unlike the previous parts, are mainly built from the sequence of “series of strokes and skill”, whereas in past games it was necessary to train for a long time even to perform a simple combo. The game has a decent list of fighters and very deep mechanics, which can captivate for many hours.
Soulcalibur VI
Soulcalibur has always tried to be original and to offer its players a different type of gameplay that is not found in other titles. For example, the characters here fight exclusively with the help of melee weapons of all varieties, and all battles take place in circular arenas. The battle can be won by successfully throwing an opponent over the edge of the location – just like in Super Smash Bros.
Fighters here are for the most part chosen not by appearance, but by equipped weapons. The vicious pirate Cervantes takes two swords with built-in pistols to battle, and beauty Ivy uses a blade that can turn into a whip.
Soulcalibur is also famous for the presence of guest characters from other franchises. For example, in the third part, players could fight for Spawn, and in the sixth roster, the famous Geralt of Rivia was added. The Witcher liked the developers so much that it even won a place on the cover.
Tekken 7
The Tekken series is very similar to the Soulcalibur, but it completely lacks melee weapons. The soldiers here fight only with the help of a variety of military techniques collected from around the world.
The battles in Tekken 7 are incredibly spectacular, which is supported by a well-chosen camera. The virtual operator always tries to show as close as possible each hit and each combination. All fighters have dozens of different techniques that must be combined with each other to achieve maximum effect.
Dragon ball fighterz
What are you guys, anime? Dragon Ball FighterZ absolutely suddenly broke into the Steam charts and became one of the most popular fighting games in recent times – and not by chance.
This is probably the first animation representative of the genre that is very friendly to novice players. The combat system in Dragon Ball FighterZ is simple and straightforward, but at the same time quite deep. You can master it in just half an hour, but it can take many weeks to improve skills.
Killer instinct
This is probably the most unpopular fighting game in our collection. It just so happened that Killer Instinct came out a long time ago and only on Xbox One – a console that we do not quite hold in high esteem. Later, the game appeared on computers, where it gained a certain amount of fame and found its audience.
Killer Instinct is easy to learn. There are no fundamentally difficult hits or skills in the game, and it takes only 30-50 minutes to learn a new character in training mode. The list of fighters is impressive: there is a toad from Battletoads, and the spider girl Sadira, who knows how to weave a web and throw knives.
Marvel vs Capcom: Infinite
Another powerful crossover, but this time the cult heroes of Capcom games like Ryu from Street Fighter and Dante from Devil May Cry will enter the battle, and they will be opposed by Marvel characters. In stock Hulk, Thor, Captain America, and even Dormamu and Ultron are.
The gameplay is based on learning super-long combinations, during which the user can freely switch between characters and continue to bludgeon the enemy. Each character has his own set of skills, ways to bring the opponent to the combination and the abundance of super blows that fill the screen with special effects. Unlike other fighting games in our collection, it can take a lot more time to master Marvel vs Capcom: Infinite, since there are a lot of mechanics in the game that you need to deal with independently.
Guilty Gear Xrd Rev.2
Guilty Gear fighting games have always been held in high esteem by Russian users, mainly due to deep gameplay mechanics and cool characters. It is in this discipline that local tournaments are most often held, to which all the coolest players come.
The latest version, called Guilty Gear Xrd Rev.2, combines a beautiful and juicy picture thanks to the Unreal Engine, a moderately complex combat system and all the familiar heroes – from Zato-1 to Potemkin. If you’re looking for an anime fighting game to start your introduction to the genre, then Guilty Gear is your best bet.
