On the night of February 17, it became known that Netflix, together with Valve, is preparing an anime series based on Dota 2. The main character of the film adaptation is Dragon Knight – in many ways not the most obvious choice, given that the game’s lore has enough more interesting characters. Cybersport.ru decided to dream up which heroes from the Dota 2 world also deserve their anime series. Why the Vengeful Spirit story is good for filming, how Shadow Shaman looks like Shigeo Kageyama from “Mob Psycho” and why Legion Commander would have turned out to be an interesting character with a gray morality – in our material.

Vengeful Spirit and a textbook story of betrayal
Vengeful Spirit, or Shendelzar, – perfect character for anime. The story of a hero who is forced to face betrayal and lose his position, home and strength, Is a popular storyline for Japanese titles. And the motive for the subsequent revenge on their offenders is just a gold mine. Such story arcs were in the anime “Code Geass”, “91 days” and in dozens of popular titles. Vengeful Spirit was betrayed by her own sister, which adds drama to the story, and the transformation of the heroine herself into a rebellious spirit of revenge will make her image deeper and more contradictory, which, by the way, again refers us to Lelouch and Avilio.
In addition, another Dota 2 hero is associated with the history of Vengeful Spirit – Skywrath Mage. The court magician who is in love with Shendelzar and torments himself for not helping her in a difficult hour will add a complex romantic line to the anime. And all this will take place against the backdrop of attempts by Vengeful Spirit to regain power and take revenge on his sister. At the same time, the creators will be able to acquaint gamers with the Skyras people, about which there is almost no information in the game’s lore, and talk about the ancient gods worshiped by these bird-like people. But Vengeful Spirit itself looks extremely cinematic – it’s not for nothing that a short film about her won first place in the Short Film Contest at TI9.
