On April 9, Valve released patch 7.29 for Dota 2. The update significantly changed the meta of the game and the balance of power – some heroes are now rapidly falling to the bottom in terms of winrate in matchmaking, while others, on the contrary, have skyrocketed to the top. Why is patch 7.29 the right time to learn how to play Techies? What made Huskar so strong? Which character has the coolest Aghanim’s Shard now? The answers to these questions are in the material Cybersport.ru.

Huskar – the main imba of the patch

Huskar became, perhaps, the main imba of the 7.29 patch. The character dominates both the low ranks and the high MMR, where he takes the fifth place in terms of win rate (56.9% of wins). It would seem that he received not so many enhancements, but a number of factors played in favor of the character. First of all, Valve has strengthened two items that are always collected at Huskar – Armlet of Mordiggian (increased bonus to armor and reduced amount of health loss) and Satanic, which was practically forgotten in 7.28. The last artifact changes are especially important for Huskar. If the reduced cooldown and the inability to dispel the effect of lifesteal are useful to all heroes, then the bonus in the form of dispelling debuffs when using an item is a real gift for Huskar. In the late stage, against the character, they must collect a Spirit Vessel, which reduces health regeneration by almost half. The updated Satanic will nullify this effect when used. It turns out that there are slightly fewer ways to counter Huskar in the late game.

Huskar

In addition, Valve gave Huskar an extremely useful Aghanim’s Shard. With its help, the hero will be able to use Inner Fire, even when stunned. The ability not only pushes enemies away (the repulsion duration has also been increased), but also disarms them. It turns out that with the purchase of Aghanim’s Shard, the character protects himself from ganks and reduces the chances of opponents to inflict burst damage on himself.

However, Huskar received an increase in strength gain, and the health loss from Burning Spear was reduced by 1%. Both of these factors allow the hero to feel even more comfortable in the lane and at the same time have a backup plan for the late game in the form of strong level 25 talents (magical lifesteal and pure damage from Burning Spear) and an enhanced Satanic. Most importantly, do not forget to ban Ancient Apparition and Pangolier – against them Huskar is still disastrously weak, even at high MMR.

Dawnbreaker – bad carry, great offlane

Dawnbreaker had the worst start among all new characters in Dota 2. Half a day after release, the hero dropped to the last place in terms of winrate, which somehow reached 35%. Although usually the developers, on the contrary, make new heroes so strong that they have to be urgently nerfed. Dawnbreaker had to be strengthened a day later, and this went to the hero’s advantage: now he wins 52% of all matches – a 17% increase in the number of victories is quite indicative.

However, it’s worth starting with the fact that Valve incorrectly positioned Dawnbreaker, calling it a carry. It turned out that the hero reveals himself much more effectively in the offlane position. Due to the huge increase in strength, Dawnbreaker already has over 2 thousand health by the 15-17th minute. She feels pretty confident at the laning stage thanks to her high stats and the ability to pick up creeps (and at the same time knead opponents) with her abilities. With the receipt of the ultimate, the Dawnbreaker can make the first gank.

Dawnbreaker

If you want not just to try out a new hero, but to raise MMR with it, you will have to abandon the standard guide that the game offers. Roll Echo Saber and Abyssal Blade and move to the hard lane. When choosing items, it is worth following the example of the professional Forev player, who has already played 15 matches with a character and won ten of them. Buying a fast Solar Crest and BKB makes the Dawnbreaker a near perfect tank. Despite the portability of the character, most professional players bought the Blink Dagger in order to organize more unexpected initiations and wreak havoc in fights.

Specter – I’m here again

Everything new is well forgotten old. As soon as Specter dropped out of the meta for one patch, Valve immediately solidified the character. Moreover, as in the case of Huskar, this was influenced by a number of different factors. To begin with, Specter has received an increase in armor and damage from Desolate, as well as enhancements from Aghanim’s Shard and Scepter. Yes, these items still cannot be categorized as a must-have for a hero, but at least they got out of the category of useless and became a pretty nice bonus in the late game.

However, the main advantage for Specter over other carries was the rebalancing of items. With patch 7.29, the era of Battle Fury officially ended, but Diffusal Blade received a noticeable increase in characteristics and damage. In addition, the developers have minimally improved the Manta Style and Blade Mail, which Specter loves so much. This puts the character in a notoriously superior position compared to Juggernaut, Phantom Assassin, Troll Warlord and other carries who have relied on a sharp leap in farming thanks to Battle Fury.

Specter

After Valve removed the Necronomicon from the game, Specter no longer has to fear aggressive, fast-pushing strategies against which the character is powerless. Patch 7.29 encourages protracted games with massive battles, in which you can recoup the lag even by assisting in kills, which is a pretty convenient scheme for Specter and her ultimate. In addition, on the changed map, where there are more trees, the hero will look more mobile against the background of other carries thanks to the ability to move through textures. So the rule “we have a Specter – our leith” again becomes relevant.

Dazzle and the best Aghanim’s Shard

Before the patch was released, we discussed what we expect from Valve in the 7.29 update. One of the points was devoted to the balance of the Aghanim’s Shard and the addition of really useful bonuses from this artifact to all the heroes. With Dazzle, the developers have tried their best (perhaps even overdone). Now the hero with Aghanim’s Shard imposes the Hex effect for 1.25 seconds on all opponents hit by the first ability, while Dazzle can use Poison Touch on eight units at once. It turns out that in theory it becomes an almost ideal counter-pick for most illusionists. For 1,400 gold, the hero gains massive control – the best investment possible.

Unsurprisingly, Dazzle’s popularity (+ 6%) and winrate (+ 4%) soared after patch 7.29. In addition, the hero received a number of minor talent buffs and a bonus from Aghanim’s Scepter. The Shallow Grave change has become much more important: abilities have reduced the delay before use from 0.5 to 0.3 seconds, and also reduced the cooldown. You can now save carries more often.

Dazzle

A big plus for Dazzle was the sharp return to the Huskar meta. Now we can recall this old combination, which in the new realities can turn out to be extremely effective. Dazzle looks very advantageous against the background of the rise in popularity of Faceless Void and Necrophos. If you correctly take a position in battles, then Dazzle is able to save allies from two ultimates of these characters.

Techies – Blast Time

Despite the pleas of most players, Valve did not remove Techies, but, on the contrary, created the most comfortable conditions for him. As the saying goes, if you cannot defeat evil, join it. In 7.28, the character was strangled by meta heroes with summons, but now everything has changed. The developers removed the Necronomicon artifact from the game, so it became more difficult to resist the Techies. Firstly, rivals will no longer be able to scout the territory and destroy mines with the help of summons, and secondly, Beastmaster and Lycan, unpleasant for the hero, immediately dropped out of the meta.

In addition, Valve has changed the forest landscape quite dramatically. More trees, narrow paths and blind spots have appeared on the map, which are the best suited for planting mines. There are also fewer ways to destroy the forest, so mining has become much more pleasant. In addition, at first, many players will be confused in the new landscape and will take a long time to adapt to new possible points for planting mines, which means that it is much easier to surprise an opponent now.

The patch itself hardly touched Techies. The hero’s movement speed was increased by ten units, which made him one of the fastest characters in the game. In addition, the delay before detonation of Remote Mine has been reduced, so enemies will have a little less time to react and use BKB, Eul’s Scepter of Divinity or an ability that gives immunity to magic. Techies also changed the bonus from Aghanim’s Shard, but this is unlikely to have any noticeable effect on the gameplay, since after the laning stage, the ability Blast Off! ceases to be relevant. Of the downsides in 7.29 for Techies, only the reduction in bonus mana regeneration from the level 15 talent can be noted.

Techies

However, the main thing is that Techies now have quite pleasant opponents. Faceless Void and Drow Ranger rush into the top meta and popular carries again – the miner blows up these heroes without any problems at all stages of the game. Therefore, if at 7.28 you hid mines on the mezzanine, then with the arrival of 7.29 it is time to uncover the entire arsenal of pyrotechnics and raise the MMR.

What hero are you going to use to raise MMR in patch 7.29?
