Kerry Pudge is a phrase that can evoke a wide range of emotions in any doter. He has some kind of nostalgia from 2014. However, now the character returns to the first position again. And not only in pubs with the rank of “Knight” (he never left), but also in matchmaking with a high MMR and even on the professional Dota 2 scene. teammates – in the material Cybersport.ru.

Now Pudge is used as a carry in matchmaking by many esports players – the character was tested Nix, iLTW, Yatoro and others, but most often the hero was picking Daxak… On the professional stage, he was already taken by the team four times PSG.LGD for Ame and won twice. We will analyze what is the peculiarity of Pudge in the first position, specifically on the example of the games Daxak and Ame.
So, buying Mask of Madness …
Not really. If you associate carry Pudge with the Mask of Madness and Skull Basher meme, then it’s time to retrain. Artifacts for enhancing a character’s physical attack, in fact, are not taken, because he will not deal the main damage from his hand.
The initial purchase from Ame and Daxak is different. A Chinese esportsman buys an ax, two twigs, Faerie Fire, Magic Wand and Tango with his first money. Daxak prefers to take Bracer and Tango right away. Both options increase the starting damage on the lane to make it easier to finish off creeps, and slightly increase the survivability.
For the first money, it is worth improving the Magic Wand and purchasing the Orb of Venom. Further, the players act in different ways: Daxak often immediately switches to the Hood of Defiance assembly, significantly increasing the character’s density, and Ame acquires Phase Boots, which help in early kills. Players buy both of these artifacts one way or another, the sequence depends more on the situation on the lane.
The order in which the following items are selected also varies, but their list remains unchanged: Aghanim’s Scepter, Blink Dagger, Black King Bar, Heaven’s Halberd, Eternal Shroud, Aghanim’s Shard, Ghost Scepter / Ethereal Blade.
With protective artifacts, everything is in principle clear: we take those that are suitable depending on the incoming damage. But the main thing on which the build is based is, perhaps, Aghanim’s Scepter, which significantly enhances the Rot ability. The artifact not only increases her damage by 100 units. and the radius by 225, but also reduces the health regeneration of opponents in the area of action by 25%. It turns out that at the fourth level of pumping the ability, the hero deals 220 damage per second in a huge radius. All that remains is to live as long as possible.
Time to put on some pounds, or what is the point of carry Pudge
Kerry Pudge is good because in the first position he can very quickly get hold of gold and experience, thanks to which by the conditional 15th minute he will have about 2 thousand health. Early purchase of Aghanim’s Scepter provides incredibly high magical damage (more than three times more than Radiance). As a result, it becomes impossible to get away from Pudge, and killing him is another task. The hero does not depend on skills with long cooldowns, so he is able to constantly participate in fights, only occasionally offering himself Clarity or Mango in order to replenish mana (it will be difficult with it).
The character will require you to take active action after purchasing the Hood of Defiance and Phase Boots. You need to move under the push of the towers, make sorties in Smoke of Deceit and participate in all massive battles. After all, in addition to gold and experience, we need to get stacks of the passive ability Flesh Heap, which increases survivability. They are critically important for Pudge’s carry, because by the 20-25th minute we need to become so fat that we can tank the fight for a long time and not die for casting enemy heroes.
However, this applies to Pudge at any position. In a carry game, it is important to maintain a balance between active actions and farming. If by the 15th minute you have reached the conditional 12th level, have collected half of Aghanim’s Scepter and generally feel like the king of the map, do not relax. Because it is tempting to spend a few minutes sitting in the bushes with a hook and waiting for your opponent, or to make an adventurous sortie alone into the enemy’s “three”. It is at this moment that carry Pudge can transform into a typical good-natured Doof of the fourth position. For example, in a 55-minute game against Aster, Ame became the leader in finishing creeps (648) and finished the meeting with the highest value (41 thousand gold). Farming creeps in the forest and on lanes behind Pudge with Aghanim’s Scepter is incredibly easy, but often players forget about it, hunting exclusively for frags. Once the enemy Faceless Void, Medusa, or other more familiar hard carry overtakes you in gold and tier, it will be almost impossible for you to get back into the game.
It is not difficult to earn the starting advantage for Pudge’s carry: the character feels great in the lane even against traditional counter picks, Ame, for example, killed Timbersaw in the first minutes, and Daxak in one of the last matches simply destroyed the Sand King and Nyx Assassin double. It is convenient to finish off creeps for Pudge due to high damage, moreover, he can easily deflect creeps with the help of a hook, if your support is having fun with the enemy “four” somewhere in the distance.
Pudge in conjunction with any more or less meta support like Ancient Apparition, Winter Wyvern or Grimstroke has a very high potential for killing an opponent starting from the second or third level. And this should definitely be used, because, as already mentioned, the Pudge carry is not designed for passive play.
