Hommage Alone in the Dark: Westmark Manor Review

The horror genre, which allows using simple mechanics not only to scare people with screamers, but also to implement various interesting creative ideas, has long become one of the most popular in the indie segment. New project Westmark manor from the team Nodbrim Interactive trying to follow forgotten paths Alone in The Dark, offering the player a gothic tale of magic, dark powers and love.

In the story, you are assigned the role of Theodore Westmark, the owner of the Westmark estate, which keeps many dark nightmares and ancient secrets in its abandoned rooms. After many years of deep study of history and occultism, the hero possesses sufficient knowledge to return to his home and try to save his beloved wife Elizabeth from a terrible curse.

Arriving at the mansion, you begin to feel ominous vibrations and the call of lost souls, but this is not the main secret of the ancient structure. Gripped with horror, you are afraid of the darkness that inflicts moral damage on your character, so all the exploration of dark rooms is directly related to the use of an oil lamp, simply necessary in gloomy corridors or a damp basement.

Walking around the rooms, you collect various items, including the keys to the chests and matches, needed to light candles in the safe rooms. Here you can also find storage for extra items and points for fast movement.

Over time, the main points with things are replenished with oil, matches and keys, which are necessary for research and the passage of the plot. By combining objects, you solve puzzles of different difficulty levels. At the same time, most of the time is spent on collecting components and objects necessary for survival.
