The witch’s bastard sword weighs almost one and a half kilograms, and it is 125 centimeters long. It has a silver-plated point with forged runes and a wolf’s head on the handle. The sword is decorated with the inscription Wykuty na Zamku Ogrodzieniec – “Forged in Ogrodzieniec Castle”.
Although this time the production team of the series never made it to Ogrodzieniec, all fans of the series will surely remember the Battle of Sodden at the end of the first season. Sodden “played” the Ogrodzieniec Castle near the village of Podzamche.
It was built in the 14th century, but has been in ruins since the 19th century. Only after the Second World War, work began on its restoration, and in 1973 the historical monument was reopened to visitors.
The Witcher series was not a debut for Ogrodzieniec Castle. For example, Andrzej Wajda filmed the film “Revenge“, And the group Iron maiden used the video of the castle ruins for her performances, in particular for the live album Live After Death.
But, as reported in the administration of the commune, after the release of The Witcher, interest in the castle has grown incredibly. Last season, Podzamche was visited by up to 50 thousand people a month – and this is in quarantine.
