HBO offered Matthew McConaughey the role of Joel in The Last of Us, but the actor declined – Insider

Turns out HBO was offering Matthew McConaughey starring in an upcoming series based on The last of usbut the actor refused.

I disclosed this information DanielRPK… According to an insider, before handing over the role of Joel to the star of “The Mandalorian” Pedro Pascal, HBO contacted McConaughey, but the actor apparently turned down the offer

It is noteworthy that even before the official approval of Pascal, there were reports in the media that Mahershala Ali was also considered for the role, although it is not clear if his candidacy was preferable. In any case, if the reports are correct, in the minds of the authors, Pascal was far from the only option.

The series adaptation of The Last of Us is currently in preparation for filming, which is due to start next month in Canada and will run until June 2023. In addition to Pascal, among the approved caste there are Bella Ramsay (Ellie) Gabriel Luna (Tommy) and Merle Dandridge (Marlin). The latter has previously played her character in the original game and its sequel.
