The update was supposed to boost interest in the game again, but an attempt to recapture a departed audience appears to have been unsuccessful. According to SteamDB, after the release of the update online, Marvel’s Avengers at its peak grew only to 2,738 people… Compared to the previous values in the region of 500-600 simultaneous players, the result has become better, but still depressingly small for such a large service game, and even more so it cannot be compared with the starting numbers.
At the launch of Marvel’s Avengers in August 2023, the platform peaked at 31,000 online games, a record for any superhero title ever released on Steam. However, the project was unable to show itself at a distance, in particular, due to the lack of a sane plan for post-release support. The first major content update for The Avengers came out only in December, but it was too late – by that time almost the entire audience had left the game.
There is no open data on the position of Marvel’s Avengers on consoles on the network, but judging by the fact that now the project is not even included in the top 50 popular games on Xbox and has not appeared in the PS Store charts for a long time, the situation there is clearly not the best way…
Nonetheless, Crystal dynamics confirmed that she is not going to transfer the project to shareware rails or stop supporting it. The studio is making long-term plans for the development of the game and recently published a roadmap for the upcoming updates.
