Researchers from the University of Lancaster in the UK said they have developed a new type of memory UK III-V, which is not inferior to DRAM in speed, but uses only 1% of energy compared to traditional RAM modules and NAND drives.
Development has not yet reached the stage of full-scale prototypes, only single transistors are available. However, the technology clearly has a prospect. It remains to wait for the commercial introduction of a new memory.
The presence of non-volatile memory at such a speed as that of RAM will allow you to combine the actual and permanent memory, get rid of sleep mode and wait until the data is read. True, it is still unknown whether the UK III-V memory is subject to the same wear and tear as SSDs. In this case, it certainly will not be able to replace RAM.
However, as we see, the search for new memory is underway, so that in the future the emergence of truly revolutionary types of memory, which have no analogues, is possible.
