Graphics got worse: The Last of Us: Part II compared to the demo version with E3 2018

Channel ElAnalistaDeBits published a graphical comparison of the release version The Last of Us: Part II with a demo demonstrated at the exhibition E3 2018. The result showed that without a downgrade, albeit a small one, the final build still could not do.

Comparison on video:

So, in the demonstration of 2018, the initial scene has a more voluminous fog compared to the release version.

Objects in puddle reflections are not displayed in real time. In one of them you can see a tree that was cut from the release version.

Volumetric lighting underwent a pronounced downgrade. In the demo of Ellie, enemies and objects of the environment cast shadows, while in the final version this does not happen.

Enemy models and animations have also become easier, especially noticeable in their faces.

Some elements of the scenes changed their location or were completely removed, such as the log on which Ellie relies.

In the release version, some puddles disappeared. Frogs have also disappeared, at least specifically in this area.

The rays of light in the release version have become less intense. Some textures, such as car textures, received lower resolution and lost reflective properties.

In this moment of the demo, the enemy swings the sledgehammer and breaks the window, while in the release build there is no such interaction with the environment.

However, some elements of the store are still destructible.

The scene with the murder of a hanged man, which occurs shortly after the start of the demo, in the release version was moved to the beginning of the level.

The shopping area has changed a lot. The meadow, which could be seen in the distance, was removed, and the store, where Ellie enters, was moved to another place.

The bloom effect inside the store disappeared, but perhaps this was due to an artistic decision.

Some animations and transitions between them, which can be seen in the demo, are not available in the release version, which indicates that the sequence in the demo was actually written according to the script and probably used scripts.

At the same time, in some aspects, the release version of The Last of Us 2 has become even better. So, for example, on cars and other objects standing in the open air, the dew effect appeared, which added realism.

Also in some areas, such as the store, the amount of vegetation has been increased.
