On the official site Mafia: Definitive Edition concept art appeared that Hangar 13 used to create a remake of the first part.
According to the developers, just looking at the updated game, it becomes clear how far the graphical component has gone since the release of Mafia: The City of Lost Heaven in 2002.
However, the studio was not only engaged in improving the graphics, but also strived to maintain the same atmosphere and authenticity of the 1930s, which the original game was famous for.
“We understand very well how much the original Mafia means to our fans, and we take great care of its heritage,” says the studio’s art director Petr Moteizik. “So we tried to bring as many elements from the original game as possible to the new version and then develop and improve them.”
To do this, the developers began creating sketches and concept art, depicting the main characters and locations along with key moments in Tommy Angelo’s story.
“Development of the original game was completed 18 years ago, and the technology behind it was developed even earlier. The list of what we have improved would be huge! ”Explains Moteizik.
The creation of the new Lost Haven for Mafia: Definitive Edition was an essential part of the art design in the remake, as the city is essentially one of the main characters in the game.
“We wanted the player to really feel like a mafioso and feel the atmosphere of Salieri’s bar, where the Don’s headquarters are located,” says Moteizik.
“We have focused on a lot of authentic details. The player can go to the bar, kitchen, workshop, garage or Salieri’s office … And life is in full swing everywhere. It seems that you are about to smell the scent of cologne and expensive perfume from these men in elegant suits, the smell of cigars that they smoke, the stink of tires and oil from Ralphie’s garage. “

Mafia: Definitive Edition is scheduled for release on September 25th for PS4, Xbox One and PC.
