Google was considering buying Epic Games in conjunction with Tencent – Igromania

The latter owns 40% of Epic Games – Google representatives wanted to either buy these shares, or together try to get 100% of Epic shares. At the same time, Google realized that the company might not accept such an offer – because of this, a version with Tencent appeared as one of the alternatives.

It also became known that Google in 2018 entered into an agreement with Apple, according to which the first pays the second large sums of money so that “Google search” remains the default search engine in the browser Safari on iPhone… Apple also encouraged Google to oppose Epic, hoping to stop the latter from lowering fees on games.

There was also mention of the Google Embrace project, aimed at trying to keep app and game authors in Play Store… To do this, they were going to introduce a reduction in commission and create other financial concessions.

Google calculated that if other developers also begin to oppose the conditions in the manner of Epic, then the first will lose about $ 6 billion in revenue. So Google has spent hundreds of millions of dollars making about 20 deals with large campaigns like Activision Blizzardto prevent this from happening.
