Google also decided to punish Epic Games and removed Fortnite from its store – developers sued

After Apple removed Fortnite from the App Store, the Android version of the game has disappeared from the Google Play Store. It all started when the developers of the most popular battle royale added a direct payment system to the game, which, in the case of both platforms, made it possible to bypass the officially allowed payment systems.

After removing the iOS version of the game, Epic Games decided to challenge Apple’s monopoly and took action against the Cupertino-based company with a lawsuit, and also published a short video called Nineteen Eighty-Fortnitethe director’s parody commercial Ridley Scott for Apple called “1984”, which played on the plot of the dystopian novel of the same name by George Orwell. Additionally, the Fortnite authors have launched a hashtag #FreeFortnite or Free Fortnite, which is now actively gaining popularity on the net.

As for Google, the situation here is developing in a scenario similar to Apple. The tech giant’s demands are that Fortnite in-game payments must be made through Google Play. Both stores now have a 30% service charge.

In an official statement, Google noted that the Android open ecosystem allows developers to distribute apps through a variety of app stores, but as long as they use the Play Store, consistent policies apply to developers that are fair to developers and keep the store safe for users. Fortnite has been removed due to a rule violation, but Google welcomes the opportunity to continue negotiations with Epic Games and bring the game back if the creators of Battle Royale stop breaking the rules.

However, the Android version of Battle Royale can be downloaded via official websitewhich provides users with the option to download Fortnite through the Epic Games app or through the Samsung Galaxy Store on Samsung devices. This is not possible on iOS devices.

In August 2018 Epic refused to distribute Fortnite through the Google Play Store and started doing it directly through its channels, as the open Android platform allows you to install apps from third-party sources. Eighteen months later, in April of this year, Epic is not without aggressive rhetoric decided to release Battle Royale on the Google Play Store.

It’s worth noting that the Google store has competing services. For example, Samsung is actively promoting its own app and game store on its Android smartphones. But so far, most users prefer the Google Play Store.

Microsoft’s xCloud cloud streaming service for Android devices will be available on both Google Play and Samsung’s Galaxy Store. In the first, due to a Google commission of 30%, the purchase of additional and in-game content is not supported, whereas in the version for the Galaxy Store this opportunity present… By the way, on iOS devices, Microsoft’s gaming streaming service turned out to be bannedwhich, of course, cannot please the Redmond company.
