Ghost of Tsushima Director’s Cut is being developed since 2023, there are no plans for a sequel yet

Content from the add-on “Iki island“, Which is part of Ghost of Tsushima Director’s Cut for PS4 and PS5, will be available after completing the first act. In this case, the game will keep track of who the users have met in the story campaign and which tasks have already been completed.

Creative director Nate Fox and Leading Environment Specialist Joanna Wang in an interview with a Japanese gaming site GameSpark revealed some details of the upcoming story, and also shared plans for the future of the series.

During the conversation, Nate Fox noted that the name Director’s Cut was not chosen by chance. Most of the content in the Expanded Edition is in addition to the main game. Also, several features have been added to the original Ghost of Tsushima, taking advantage of the new hardware and PS5 capabilities. In addition, the team upgraded the protagonist’s horse, trying to make it “more than just a vehicle.” Jin is now able to attack enemies at a gallop, and so on.

The developer recalled that you can start completing the add-on at any time, even after the end of the campaign. On the island of Iki Jin, a unique story awaits, which will change depending on the previous merits of the players. How exactly progress from the base game will affect the expansion storyline, Fox did not elaborate.

Representatives Sucker Punch Productions told reporters that Ghost of Tsushima Director’s Cut has been in development since 2023, and all team members work remotely. Fox notes that in order to capture motion and record animation, the developers had to visit the actors’ home, bringing with them specialized equipment.

Talking about the future of the series, Fox replied that he didn’t know if Ghost of Tsushima would come out on a regular basis. The developer explained that the team postponed discussions on future plans until the release of Ghost of Tsushima Director’s Cut. Sucker Punch Productions currently have no idea what the upcoming sequel will look like if it comes out.

Earlier it was reported that the size of the Iki Island from the Ghost of Tsushima expansion is comparable to the region of the first act.
