Gender-neutral Fairy Godmother in the first frames of the new film adaptation of “Cinderella”

Edition Entertainment Weekly published the debut footage from the musical “Cinderella“from Amazon Prime Video.

The images provide a first glimpse of the key characters in the modern rebirth of the classic tale. The role of Cinderella went to a Cuban-American singer Camille Cabello, Prince Robert was played by a Briton Nicholas Golitsyn, and Fairy Godmother turned into a gender-neutral character named Fab G, played by an openly dark-skinned gay Billy Porter… The image was rethought special for him.

According to the head of Amazon Studios Jennifer Salke, the new “Cinderella” is a bold musical interpretation of a traditional story, in which the protagonist will be shown as a young ambitious girl, whose dreams are bigger than the whole world can afford.

The rest of the roles are Idina Menzel (Cinderella’s stepmother) Minnie Driver (Queen Beatrice) and Pierce Brosnan (King Rowan).

The tape was originally slated for a theatrical release, but Sony Pictures eventually sold the rights to Amazon for the digital release.

The premiere will take place in September directly on streaming.
