Creator Gears of War Cliff Blezinski regrets that he released a shooter Lawbreakers, your first project after leaving Epic games, on the Playstation 4 instead Xbox one. He reported this in correspondence with fans. In detail, the game designer wants to delve into this topic in a book about his career.
“YES, I made a mistake releasing LawBreakers on the PlayStation 4 instead of the Xbox One,” wrote Blezinski.
While developing LawBreakers, Blezinski decided to bet on the Sony console (in addition to the PC), since it was ahead of the Microsoft console in terms of sales – it played a user-base factor.
The game designer team could not work with two systems at once, since they had very limited resources. However, now the former employee of Epic Games admits that he thought too superficially, because on the Xbox One, even taking into account the loss of this PlayStation 4 console, there remained a large base of fans of his work – fans of Gears of War. The Sony ecosystem has become for the author something completely new and unknown.
“There were a lot of people on the Xbox who have been following my Gears of War career for a long time,” the developer wrote.
But not only the “wrong” choice of the platform led to the failure of LawBreakers – in the book, Blezinski promises to name eight reasons for the collapse of the project.
After the failure of LawBreakers, Blezinski released the royal battle on PC Radical heightstrying to hop on a departing train Fortnitebut this game died even faster.
In 2018, the creator of Gears of War announced that he would never make games again, however later he got interesting ideas.
