Famous journalist yesterday Jason Schreier published new investigation into the company Ubisoft… Within the material Schreier touched upon the unhealthy working atmosphere within the publishing house, issues of sexism, as well as controversial decisions of the management team.
The theme of female characters in central roles in games was drawn especially sharply throughout the text. Ubisoftwhich, allegedly, were often opposed by their superiors. It forbade their implementation in the games being created, or insisted that their screen time be reduced.
Investigation Jason Schreier is based on comments from anonymous employees of the company, but the publication was able to generate a strong reaction from Gabriela Salvatorededicated to work in Ubisoft several years of my life. Without fear for her career (now the girl works in a publishing house Devolver digital), Salvatore confirmed much of what the journalist wrote, and also shared her own opinion.
So, Dabriela writes that the idea that Ubisoft is a company “leftists“fighting for”social justice“- absolute stupidity that has little to do with reality… On the contrary, she says, all the elements of representativity that appear for the games of the French publishing house are the results of a bitter struggle of ordinary employees who strive to make projects at least a little more inclusive.
A huge part of the content created in the early stages of the development of many games Ubisoft, according to Salvatore, represents “absolute horror”, for the removal of which one literally has to fight with the authorities. As an example, a former employee cites an interactive rape scene with controller vibration, and mini-games and quests related to the native population of the United States, sponsored by “White people“. All this, in her words, Ubisoft I wanted to see it in my releases, but the employees tried to prevent this from happening.
Another former employee was canceled with similar rhetoric Ubisoft, screenwriter Jill Murray, whose portfolio includes projects of the series Assassin’s creed… According to her, the leadership has consistently insisted that the protagonist in the games must be “white alpha male“. When Murray expressed her disagreement with this position, she was removed from office, after which she had to resign…
To date Ubisoft is in the process of a major restructuring following the dismissal of a harassment accused Serge Hascoeta, formerly actually the second most important person in the company. He was in charge of all the games in the role of the chief creative producer. How exactly this will affect the well-known French publishing house is still extremely difficult to predict.
