Hironobu Sakaguchi, best known as the creator Final Fantasy, presented my next game – Fantasian… It is a Japanese RPG in which the developers are trying to partially reinvent the genre.
Let’s start in order: the game is made with the help of 150 artists who manually created more than 150 dioramas, on top of which three-dimensional models of heroes are already displayed. The project team tried to recreate a unique sense of charm and warmth by making the environment “miniature”.
But the most interesting thing was the rethinking of random battles – in classic jRPGs, when traveling, battles with monsters periodically began. In Fantasian, such battles can be … postponed: the hero will send the monsters to an alternate dimension (Dimengeon). Later you can break in there and destroy all opponents in one battle.
The problem with random battles was not complexity, but annoyance – the battles themselves were pretty easy, which quickly became monotonous. Fantasian’s decision is intriguing.

The rest of the game is a fairly standard representative of the genre – even, to be precise, it is heavily inspired by Final fantasy vi… As Sakaguchi admits, a few years ago he and his colleagues launched the sixth part, which prompted him to create Fantasian.
Plot
The main character Leo goes in search of his father, but after the incident he finds himself in an alternative dimension – the “Machine Kingdom” – remembering only about the girl Keena, who can return him to the “Human Kingdom”.
Players will have to go on a journey to regain their memory, while simultaneously revealing the secret of a mystical infection that engulfs humanity.
Story Trailer
Another pleasant surprise: the composer of Fantasian is Nobuo Uematsu, who worked on the music of all numbered Final Fantasy except XIII and XV. Lost odyssey and Blue dragon…
The game will be released this year, but only on Mac and iOS through the Apple Arcade service. Presumably, next year it will be released on consoles and PC.
