FAS wants to oblige companies to remove preinstalled applications – review

The Federal Antimonopoly Service (FAS) proposes to charge the developers of operating systems with the responsibility for the preinstallation of Russian applications and programs. This is planned to be done along with the same responsibility for manufacturers and sellers of equipment.

Simply put, the department wants Apple, Google and Microsoft made it possible to completely remove their programs and install domestic counterparts. The companies have so far refused to comment on this innovation, but experts doubt that the FAS will be able to force corporations to do so.

The fact is that companies operate in Russia through intermediaries and distributors. The imposition of sanctions will hit consumers, not companies. As stated by the chief analyst of the Russian Association of Electronic Communications Karen Ghazaryan, the creators of the OS simply unprofitable to remove their pre-installed programs.

At the same time, according to him, the new FAS initiative can improve the situation with competition, because it will give third-party application developers equal conditions with software giants.

And Anton Guskov from the Association of trading companies and manufacturers of electrical and computer equipment noted that this could violate consumer rights and affect the performance of the system. And although removal is not technically a problem, companies are unlikely to do so. This is especially true for Apple.
