Journalists submitted materials as if the game would not have a political agenda at all, while it was about Cuba – Ubisoft does not want to “take sides”, since the history of the island is very confusing.
“Our history is political. The plot of a modern revolution should be like this“.
As Hawari notes, Far Cry 6 will touch upon sensitive topics such as the rise of fascism in the country, the cost of imperialism, slavery, the need for free and fair elections and the rights of LGBTQ + representatives.
However, all this will be discussed on the fictional island of Yara somewhere in the Caribbean.
“My goal is to give the team the freedom to tell the complex story we’ve been working on over the past five years. We also carefully examined sources of inspiration, including Cuba and other countries that have gone through a political revolution.“.
The team constantly communicated with experts and witnesses of such events to study the plot from different angles – however, Hawari cannot say if the developers have succeeded in fulfilling their goals.
“It’s not for me to decide if we succeeded, but I can say with confidence that we tried very hard“
Closing remarks by Navid Hawari
“From the point of view of the plot, we tried to capture the political complexity of the modern revolution in a fictitious context. We tried to tell a story full of events, adventure and soul – but also one that would not be afraid to ask difficult questions.
The DNA of the Far Cry series has always contained the beginnings of adult and complex themes that combine frivolity and humor. One cannot exist without the other – and we have tried to achieve this balance.
I hope the story speaks for itself – before someone has time to form a definite opinion about the political background. ”
Far Cry 6 launches October 7 on PS5, PS4, Xbox Series, Xbox One and PC.
