All modern virtual reality headsets have one common drawback – they are large and heavy. So far, manufacturers have not been able to fit all the electronics and optics into compact dimensions. But it seems in Facebook experimenting in this direction.
The specialized media published data on how the nameless prototype of the company looks like so far. Facebook VR glasses resemble ordinary sun glasses, which was achieved due to special holographic lenses, which made it possible to reduce the size of the system.
It is noted that at the current stage the thickness of the device is less than 9 mm, and the viewing angle is comparable to modern helmets from other manufacturers. But there are also disadvantages. The prototype so far can only display a picture in shades of green. But the enlarged version can display a full-color picture.
At the moment, researchers are trying to increase system performance so that it can display all colors.
