“Everyone is sitting at home, motion capture work has stopped”: Xbox CEO Phil Spencer warns of impending difficulties

According to Spencer, most of the developments planned for this year are likely to have no major problems.. However the industry may feel difficulties in the first months of 2023.

“Summer, early autumn? Everything should be fine during this period. Projects planned for release only in a year or later? There will be difficulties. But developers should be able to respond to them in a timely manner,” Phil Spencer explained.

The creation of a large-budget project takes the collective efforts of hundreds and thousands of specialists who are involved at various levels, in offices around the world. In the current environment, it is simply not possible to maintain the previous effective level of work.

“The work of capturing movements in various studios literally completely stopped. Everyone is at home. If the developers managed to capture all the necessary animations and the question remains only in finalizing some visual elements, creating textures and so on, then the situation is not critical. Or but someone may be directly dependent on the necessary audio materials – voice acting, orchestral recordings … if you don’t have it now, you just have to wait and do other things, ”Spencer continues.

So, as an example of potential victims of the coronavirus, Phil Spencer cited some annual sports series, such as FIFA and Madden NFL, the final part of the development of which is often associated with bringing all the necessary components into a finished product.

Formerly a Japanese company Capcom made a statementwhich claimed that several unannounced projects due to the crisis may come later than planned.

Despite all this, next-generation consoles, Playstation 5 and Xbox Series X, while following their schedule and should appear on store shelves in the holiday season of this year.
