During the presentation of Unreal Engine 5, Epic Games announced the opening of online services for cross-display between consoles and computers: Epic Online Services designed to unite the community and help developers scale their games to the needs of players without much effort.
“Friends, matchmaking, lobby, achievements, leaderboards and accounts – we created these services for Fortnite and launched them on seven main platforms: PlayStation, Xbox, Switch, PC, Mac, iOS and Android. Now we open Epic Online Services to all developers for free in a simple multi-platform SDK! ”
Epic Online services were announced back in December 2018. Since then, they have passed “combat testing” and are ready for release. Two sets will be available at launch, which will help developers interact better with the community.
Game Services:
- lobby;
- matchmaking;
- P2P communication;
- player data storage;
- progress;
- statistics;
- leaderboards;
- game analytics;
- issue of tickets.
Other features will appear later, including voice chat.
Epic Account Services:
- login – support for cross-platform accounts (PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo, Facebook and Google);
- friends – shows when your comrades are online on any of the platforms, helping to easily connect to them in the game.
