Epic Games has announced Unreal engine 5 with a live demonstration of technology on the PlayStation 5.
The main features of the next numbered version of the engine will be:
- the use of assets with billions of polygons, which are now used in films;
- a new method of global lighting – Lumen;
- uniform quality of assets regardless of their placement range (LODs);
- lack of appearance of objects “out of thin air” (pop-ins).
To show the features of the engine, a special demo was created, which is completely playable.
According to the founder of Epic Games Tim Sweeney, SSD in the PS5 is much faster than those who are now even in the most expensive computers. At the same time, the console output will help make such drives much more common.
Wherein Fortnite will continue to work on Unreal Engine 4 until mid-2021, after which the migration process will begin. Battle Royale, however, will be available on the PS5 and Xbox Series X from its premiere later this year.
An early version of Unreal Engine 5 will be released in early 2023. The engine will support PS5, Xbox Series X, PC, iOS and Android.
