Headliner broadcast EA Play Live 2023 was a demonstration Portal for Battlefield 2042. Fully customizable mode is a constructor of maps, weapons, vehicles and even the action time of the action taken from the previous parts of the series.
Portal was developed by the former DICE LA and now Ripple Effect. Players are invited to combine eras, the number of soldiers, the size of their lives, types of equipment and create their own matches.
How it works
- You can edit matches exclusively in the browser, while the organizer is able to control the course of the battle as he pleases (for example, delete unwanted players).
- There are still limitations in the mechanics: you cannot create your own Battle Royale, since it will not work to set up a constantly shrinking area.
- Maps cannot be edited, although a destruction system is present.
- The number of players must not exceed 128 (PCs and new generation consoles) or 64 (legacy systems).
- There are asymmetric multiplayer battles, matches can be filled with bots.
- Basic modes include Conquest, Compact Conquest, Rush, or a customizable option for advanced players.
- Leveling up, including the battle pass, is combined with other multiplayer modes.
- At the start, 6 exclusive cards and 7 standard ones, 7 factions, more than 30 gadgets, 40 types of weapons and 40 pieces of equipment will be available.

- 40+ vehicles from 3 theaters of war;
- The Spitfire and the B17 bomber will return with modern vehicles like the ATV and Little Bird;
- All-Out Warfare vehicles from Battlefield 2042.
Gadgets
- 30+ gadgets from 3 theaters of war;
- Scout Gadgets, including MAV and Beacon, Defibrillator and Robot OVU;
- All-Out Warfare gadgets from Battlefield 2042.
Armies
- Classic factions return to Portal with the ability to combine 7 different armies from classic Battlefield and Specialists from Battlefield 2042;
- Portal will feature exclusively the UK, US and German armies from Battlefield 1942, and the US and Russian armies from Battlefield: Bad Company 2.
The soldiers
- The factions in Portal will also return the archetypes of soldiers in their familiar form from previous parts. For example, the Assault, Engineer, Support, and Scout classes from Battlefield 3.
Portal will continue to evolve after release. The first year of Battlefield 2042 will launch four seasons, including four Battle Passes, four new Specialists, new locations, vehicles, weapons, and more.
The release of Battlefield 2042 on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X | S and PC will take place on October 22, 2023.
