EA Makes Plans For Annual Racing Game Pipeline With Codemasters

Company Electronic Arts expects that the upcoming acquisition of the British studio Codemasters will allow her to establish an annual racing release on par with EA Sports games.

In a presentation accompanying the company’s third quarter financial results, EA noted that the planned $ 1.2 billion acquisition of Codemasters will make it “the world leader in racing entertainment.”

“Codemasters have great teams that we know very well, and joining them will significantly expand our racing profile, driving the company’s growth. We believe EA Sports and Codemasters will be able to take gaming franchises to the next level,” said the CEO EA Andrew Wilson.

The upcoming deal will put EA at the forefront of racing game development. The company is confident that its marketing capabilities will benefit Codemasters’ projects, and their own IPs will benefit from the new studio’s expertise. Wilson also added that he sees the merger as an opportunity to help Codemasters franchises receive long-term support.

However, EA’s boss stressed that plans to release racing games annually are just a concept the company is currently working on.

The line of IPs owned by Codemasters includes DiRT, GRID and Project CARSas well as licenses for F1 and World Rally Championship (will start operating in 2023). EA itself at that time has Need for speed, Burnout and Real Racing
