DRAM video memory prices to rise next quarter – review

Resource DRAMeXchange informsthat in the first quarter of 2023, contract prices for DRAM video memory will rise. This is due to the fact that the video memory segment responds faster to changes than others. It is a question of growth of 5% compared with the previous quarter. This will be the largest leap among all types of DRAM-memory, which will automatically affect the price of video cards.

The main reason for the growth is the transition from GDDR5 to GDDR6 memory. All manufacturers reduce the production of solutions from the “fifth” memory in favor of the “sixth”. Additionally, the transition can accelerate the appearance on the market of the PS5 and Xbox Series X, as they will receive a new type of video buffer, and the memory capacity will be 16 GB.

All this will lead to the fact that demand will exceed supply, which means manufacturers can very well “pull” prices up. It is also important to note that the volume of video memory output this year declined amid falling prices. It will take time to return to the previous level.

As for manufacturers, the top 3 include Samsung, SK Hynix and Micron.
