Last year it became known that the upcoming shooter Doom eternal will receive support for ray tracing technology, but now it turned out that it should not be expected at the start of the game. In conversation with Digital foundry project producer Marty Stratton He said that the introduction of the new raytracing still remains in the plans, but this is not a priority issue.
“We have not yet entered into a discussion of this issue. And we have not paid much attention to this aspect. At the same time, we had many other ideas that we wanted to implement in the game.”
At the same time, Stratton emphasized that the authors of Doom Eternal are the biggest fans of new technologies. Of course, they are aware of ray tracing and even experimented with it, but in the end they decided not to focus on the “new toy” yet, but focus on other aspects in order to release a high-quality game as soon as possible.
Stratton also noted that id Software has some pretty cool ideas that will make it easier for developers to create new ray-tracing content.
Doom Eternal comes out March 20, 2023 on the Playstation 4, Xbox one, Stadia and RS. Console version Nintendo switch will be released a little later.
