During the announcement Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time – Remake Ubisoft said nothing about whether the authors of the updated game are collaborating with the game designer and writer of the original Sands of Time Jordan Meckner…
The information was clarified by Mekner himself in his blog, where he confirmed that does not take an active part in the project, but gave the developers from Ubisoft India some advice and has already played the fresh assembly of the remakeby sharing your first impressions.
“The developers of the remake aimed to update the gameplay so that it would meet the expectations of modern gamers, but did not go against what is preserved in our memories. For my taste, they managed to hit the target. Although the plot, gameplay, level design and dialogue completely true to the original, everything was rebuilt from scratch using new resources and the engine. “
“I only played a few levels. I want to save the whole experience for the full version when it comes out in January, and I look forward to playing The Sands of Time for the first time from start to finish since I put my controller 17 years ago. from PS2 after playtesting – exhausted, excited, hopeful knowing it’s time to release a game. I hope you will join me. “
He explained that one of his main wishes to the developers was the rework of the cinematics, the quality of which did not suit him even by the standards of 2003.
“The opening scenes should be epic, truly capturing the Persian (and Indian) world so that we can experience the vastness between the kingdoms and the destructiveness of the sands. A team in India has taken on this task.”
Mekner gave a few notes on what he wanted to see in the updated videos, but separately asked the authors not to change a word in the dialogues… As for his personal contribution to the project, it consisted of bringing the team up with Yuri Lowenthal, who voiced Prince in the original game. 17 years later, the actor will again repeat this iconic role in the remake.
The release of the updated Prince of Persia: Sands of Time will take place January 21st on Xbox One, PS4 and PC. Owners of Xbox Series X / S and PlayStation 5 will be able to play with backward compatibility.
