Death Stranding creator Hideo Kojima wanted to work with Sony again, but his offer was turned down – rumor

Hideo Kojima was closely associated with Playstation ever since the first generation of the console came out. When he cut ties with Konami and transformed Kojima Productions to an independent studio, he was immediately signed to Sony to release Death Stranding as a PlayStation console exclusive.

However, recent rumors suggest that a major change in established traditions may soon occur – it is alleged Microsoft close to making a deal for Kojima’s next game.

This is a pretty unexpected twist, and if it does eventually prove to be true, many would probably be wondering why Kojima is leaving Sony? Apparently, this was not his personal decision.

In a recent Xbox Era podcast, an insider Shpeshal_Ed stated that Kojima Productions initially approached Sony with a pitch for their new project, however, the company was not satisfied with the commercial success of Death Stranding and turned down the studio’s offer to work together again.

He also believes that Kojima may have had a dialogue about cooperation with Google and Stadia due to the fact that his new game appears to be heavily cloud-based. According to Shpeshal_Ed, negotiations with Microsoft have progressed further and, obviously, are already close to completion, so we can hear the official details quite soon.
