Screenwriter David Gaiderthe originator of the role-playing series Dragon age studio BioWare, touched on in his personal blog a problematic topic for the franchise – the history of production Dragon age 2… In a series of posts, the developer shared his thoughts on how he’d like to see the controversial game today – assuming it could get a conditional extended re-release.
Gaider pointed out that it was the complex production cycle that endowed Dragon Age 2 with its unique face – all good, like all bad, appeared in the game precisely because of the tight development schedule, which pushed BioWare to unexpected decisions.
For example, Gaider himself does not consider the repetitiveness of Dragon Age 2 locations to be too big a disadvantage. The writer is much more concerned about the fact that the BioWare team was never able to give Kirkwall true life when creating the game.…
According to the original plans, the City of Chains was to become much larger, with a greater density of characters and characters. And in the course of the game, with each plot act, Kirkwall would gradually change – Hawke’s decisions and actions had to lead to different consequences, which would be visually and thematically reflected in the usual locations.
Hawk himself, according to Gaider, had to have a separate storyline tied to blood magic. Provided the player chose the appropriate class, the character would have to go through a real drama, where one wrong step could turn Hawke into a frightening monster.
Gaider also noted the third act of Dragon Age 2. The writer explained that at first the final part of the game had a lot of content – it had more separate storylines, better leading to the inevitable clash of magicians and templars. At the same time, Gaider would be interested to write an alternative scenario in which Hawke and his team would have the opportunity to take neutrality at the Battle of Kirkwall, with alternative fates for Orsino and Meredith.
Among other unrealized ideas in Dragon Age 2, the large-scale expansion Exalted March is mentioned, as well as the idea of an “unreliable storyteller” – the legend of Hawke, which Varric tells Cassandra, would now and then be diluted with the absurd fantasies of a dwarf, which would sometimes add a more light tone to the narrative and unexpected moods.
Dragon Age 2 was released in 2011 at Playstation 3, Xbox 360 and PC… The next full-fledged Dragon Age part is in production today – it is being prepared for release on platforms Playstation 5, Xbox series x, as well as PC…
