In 2023 CD Projekt RED said that after Cyberpunk 2077 will release a standalone AAA multiplayer game in the universe of this franchise, but in the end, plans changed. This was announced at a meeting with investors by the CEO CD Projekt Adam Kiczynski, reports the edition VGC…
“We previously indicated that our next AAA game will be multiplayer Cyberpunk 2077, but in the end the decision was revised,” he said.
CD Projekt’s new approach is to immediately or gradually add online to all future games, but not to release large independent multiplayer products…
“When it comes to online, we are changing our approach. We want to complement our future single player games with multiplayer features, step by step, but we are not working on making the next release a standalone AAA multiplayer project.”
In this regard, it is not entirely clear whether it is worth waiting for multiplayer in Cyberpunk 2077 as an add-on and when such an add-on may come out. There were no specifics at the meeting.
According to Kicinski, the studio has a lot of interesting ideas related to multiplayer.
“We started working on online components over two years ago and are just continuing. The only change is that we are no longer working on online as a main product,” explained the CEO.
Developers will strive to “enrich” their singles with online elements.
“We believe that our ideas will be interesting for gamers. We have very strong ideas and prototypes, but it’s too early to talk about a monetization model.”
