A couple of months ago, CS: GO was already eight years old, but the shooter’s audience is growing from year to year. And if seasoned players have memorized all the console commands for a long time, then beginners are usually interested in basic things – graphics settings, HUD optimization or crosshair customization. We will talk in more detail about the latter in this article and tell you how to choose the crosshair with which it will be most convenient for you to shoot off the heads of your opponents.

Sight setup – where to start?
There are two styles and two types of scopes in CS: GO, and they can be combined with each other. The first style is default (in the game settings it is listed as “Default”). Valve created it specifically for beginners, it looks quite futuristic (as if from Call of Duty), and it also lights up in red if you aim at a partner – this is done to help inexperienced players understand who is friend and who is enemy. Its second plus is that the scope is visible on any background, from a sunny sky to tiles on Inferno. However, its disadvantage is too serious – it has few customization parameters, so it will not work to customize it.
The second style is classical, it is used by the vast majority of players. This crosshair comes straight from the past parts of Counter-Strike, and you can change it as much as you like to find the most convenient configuration.
Now about the types of sight. Everything is simple here: the first – static, which does not change in any way when shooting (professional players most often use this one). Second – dynamic, and it begins to expand as it fires, roughly indicating the spread of bullets. Perhaps, if you are a completely newbie, you can first try playing with a dynamic sight – this way you will quickly learn how to shoot and control the spray. In addition, it is the dynamic sight that can be configured so that it expands both when shooting and / or when walking.
Sight customization
Once you’ve decided that your choice is a classic scope, it’s time to customize it. Open the settings, find the “Game” tab there, and then – the “Crosshair” tab. Here you will have more than ten different parameters, after playing with which you can choose the optimal configuration – the sight will change in the picture, so you don’t have to go to some server to test it. Now in more detail about the parameters themselves.
Center point… The console command cl_crosshairdot 0 (no point) / cl_crosshairdot 1 (there is a point) is responsible for this parameter. With the help of a point, you can more accurately shoot at the head, but only if you have sufficiently thin edges of the sight – otherwise it will block too much field of view, you can simply not notice the enemy.
Length… The higher the parameter, the longer the lines that make up the crosshair. It is not worth doing too long, it makes no sense. The optimal range is from two to four, the console command is cl_crosshairsize X, where instead of X is a number from 0.1 to 10.
Thickness… The higher the parameter, the thicker the line of sight. The console command is cl_crosshairthickness X (0.1 to 6). There is no point in very wide scopes, the best option is a number in the range from 0.5 to 1.5.
Gap… The higher the parameter, the greater the distance between the sight lines. The console command is cl_crosshairgap X (-5 to 5). Here, be guided by your own taste: it is more convenient for someone when the gap is minimal, in order to more accurately aim at the head, while someone likes, for example, to make a large gap and use a point.
Outline… This parameter determines whether the lines of your scope will be framed with a black border – this may be useful for some, since in this case the scope is better visible on the screen. Professional players do not use this and disable the function. The console command is cl_crosshair_drawoutline (0 to 1).
Colour… Everything is clear here – play with the sliders in the settings and choose a color that is comfortable for yourself. There are console commands for this, but you won’t need them.
Transparency… The lower the parameter, the less visible your scope is on the screen. You can turn it off altogether, but it’s best to play around with different values and choose a comfortable one for yourself. Adjusted by the cl_crosshairalpha console command (from 0 to 255).
In the settings, you can also choose a T-shaped sight (without the top line), but there is no practical use in it – and, in principle, it is inconvenient for most.
The easiest ways to find a scope for yourself
Customizing the scope through the settings is rather dreary and dull. You have to tinker too much, so the community has long come up with other, simpler and more convenient methods.
In my opinion, the best option is to use maps from the Steam Workshop. For beginners, crashz ‘Crosshair Generator v3 is perfect, you can subscribe to it here…
What is the advantage of the card? First of all, you can choose the scope by simply shooting at the option you like. Here you can take the sight of a professional player (several dozen are represented) or a streamer, and then edit it to your liking. Here you can practice shooting and see how the scope will look on different maps. A very handy thing!
Is the crosshair important?
Of course, choosing a scope for yourself is important. Still, winning matches will not be the color or thickness of the lines, but you yourself. Cybersportsmen on streams sometimes jokingly aim at the entire screen or even play with a dot – and still hit perfectly. So practice your shooting first. Good luck chasing the Global Elite Rank!
