Major French game resource Gameblog.fr published a voluminous news article in which, referring to his sources, he tried to shed light on the parting of the game designer Hideo Kojima and companies Konami.
As you know, the departure of an industry veteran from the publishing house shrouded in mystery and gloom – even after so many years, none of the parties voiced the details of the breakdown of cooperation, and the release status Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain and the abolition of horror Silent hills made fans build completely insane theories.
The editor in his article Gameblog.fr first chose to touch precisely “Phantom Pain“and to clarify some important points. First zombie branch Metal Gear Survive supposedly created with the participation of Hideo KojimaHowever, the general structure and central idea of the entire project was noticeably different. Secondly, it was not an independent game, but just a DLC, passing under the code name MGSV.5. And, unlike the result Survive, that variation of the add-on focused not on zombies, but on giant kaiju monsters that players had to fight in images Snake and Ocelot.
Next came the so-called “third chapter“and the 51st episode that fans thought were supposed to significantly develop the story MGSV.
Gameblog.fr assures that these hopes were not fulfilled in any case. An additional mission really existed, its personnel are present on the network, it was not far from completion, but it was exactly what it seems from the available data – a small sketch covering one of the storylines. No further development plans for the game Konami did not have.
But perhaps one of the most interesting moments of the whole material Gameblog.fr it becomes a description of the history of the teaser Silent hills. Recall that all the information presented here should be taken exactly as a rumor, these data do not have official confirmation now.
So, according to Gameblog.fr, an exemplary chronology of events was as follows:
- By creating a playable teaser P.T. Hideo Kojima, in the strictest confidence, worked with a small development team, and only a small number of people knew that the result of their work would be presented to the general public.
- The top executives at Konami, who should be notified initially, were not aware of P.T. up to the last moment: for the first time, many of them learned about the game only at Gamescom 2014 along with the official announcement. And it was precisely this that led to a significant deterioration in the relationship between Kojima and Konami.
- P.T. Release PSN was only possible thanks to Sony’s help, which provided Kojima with a dummy company that none of Konami knew anything about (at Sony’s Gamescom 2014 it was announced that P.T. was developing a certain 7780s Studio).
- As a result of this maneuver, Konami’s PR departments were inundated with a flurry of questions about the new Silent Hill after its existence was revealed in the mysterious P.T.
- When the question was raised already inside Konami itself, Kojima was under fire from senior executives. The fact is that part of the budget allocated to The Phantom Pain was used to develop P.T. bypassing all agreements, which further heated the conflict.
- The situation itself was not helped by Kojima’s position in the company, which was free to act as he sees fit, which was contrary to Konami’s current plans. The creator of Metal Gear Solid held a high position and enjoyed authority.
- Ultimately, Konami and Kojima went their separate ways, where the first focused on mobile gaming, and the second opened his own full-fledged studio and set about creating Death Stranding.
Now, as clarifies Gameblog.frrelationship between Kojima and Konami significantly improved. It is possible that in the future the parties, accustomed to working together, will unite again to create something new. Curious that before absolutely similar rhetoric came from other sources.
It’s also noteworthy that about a year ago, the YouTube channel TheGrateDebate published a video in which the authors shared similar thoughts. That video also referred to some sources, but for the most part it was a free interpretation of all the events around Kojima and Konami.
So, TheGrateDebate was sure that Kojima began to prepare his departure from the company long before the end of work on Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, and the last couple of years in Konami spent to rally a development team around him and establish contacts with other figures in the gaming industry and culture, as he was well aware that he would simply no longer be able to take his previous working position.
Once again, we clarify that the data published in this article is unconfirmed, so it’s definitely not worth it to be prematurely mistaken for a 100% fact.
