COVID-19 hampers Star Wars: Rogue One spin-off changes director

The reasons are directly related to the pandemic. The 64-year-old director lives in New York, and the filming was planned to take place in the UK. Therefore, the American decided not to risk it.

Briton will be the new director Toby Hayneswho managed to work on serials “Black mirror“(Black mirror), “Sherlock (Sherlock), “Being human“(Being Human) and “Doctor Who“(Doctor Who). He is tasked with filming the first three episodes of the exclusive Disney +, the main character of which will be a rebel Cassian Andor (Diego Luna).

They will return to their roles Genevieve O’Reilly (leader of the Rebel Alliance Mon Mothma) and Alan Tudik (droid K-2SO). Note that the series is not just a spin-off, but a prequel.

Filming is slated to begin in October 2023 (unless the second wave of COVID-19 interferes with production). Tony Gilroy continues to serve as showrunner and executive producer.
