The bottom line is that the company is reorienting Cortana to corporate use. For this, it is planned to gradually disable all third-party skills for the system. After that, the voice assistant will only evolve within the Microsoft 365 suite.
Additionally, Cortana will remain in Windows 10, Teams enterprise messenger, and Outlook mobile email client. As such, the company decided not to compete with Siri, Alexa, and Google Assistant in the consumer segment.
This approach shouldn’t come as a surprise to those following Microsoft’s goals. The company has changed priorities long ago and does not consider consumer OS and products to be the main thing for itself. So moving Cortana into a new category is also quite logical within this strategy.
