Coronavirus knocked down – sales of flagship Switch models in Japan collapsed, but Switch Lite saves the situation

In Japan, a shortage of flagship models Nintendo switch. This is evidenced by the latest sales statistics published today by the publication Famitsu. Last week, stores sold a total of 16 thousand hybrid consoles – this is almost everything that remained in the warehouses and that the players could still find. For comparison, over the previous week, the Japanese bought 80 thousand devices.

Nintendo has not yet been able to resume delivery of systems to its home region due to the coronavirus epidemic in China. Production of new batches is also temporarily stopped.

All this happens amid the hype around Animal Crossing: New Horizons – the expected game for Switch, which should become one of the main drivers of sales of the console family this year.

Fearing a protracted iron deficiency, the Japanese began to actively buy a portable model of the family, Switch lite, which, since its launch, has lost the hybrid flagship in popularity and is still in stock. Last week, its indicators tripled.

Thanks to Switch Lite, total Japanese weekly platform sales fell by just 20,000 systems, from 100,000 to 80,000. At the moment, it is not known how many more portable models remain with retailers. If they are few, then Switch performance for a while runs the risk of just freezing.

The first place in the software chart following the results of last week was taken by a music game Hatsune Miku: Project Diva MegaMix from company Sega. Leading in the previous top fighting game Granblue Fantasy: Versus rolled back to third place, sifting 86%.

Long-suffering Ring fit adventure this week was the fifth (-56%). Coronavirus also affected its production.
