Remake Final Fantasy VII topped the UK retail chart with sales two times worse than the starting figures Final Fantasy XV, reports the publication GamesIndustry.biz with reference to agency data Gfk. However, these figures do not reflect the real demand for the new product.
In connection with the spread of coronavirus, the bulk of selling games on physical media in British stores closed, journalists say. In addition, Square Enix’s supply chain has been hit hard, with the result that Final Fantasy VII Remake is now almost impossible to find in major supermarkets that continue to operate across the country. Games are also not available at specialized retailers that deliver goods to your home. The initial circulation was enough to cover pre-orders. Digital sales are unknown.
But even with such limitations, a remake of Final Fantasy VII started on the UK box charts on a par with Kingdom Hearts III and twice as good as the recent remake Resident evil 3. Capcom project sales collapsed last week by 78%.
Speaking about the entire British retail market as a whole, GamesIndustry.biz editor Chris Dring notes that despite the coronavirus and the closure of stores, the boxed games segment continues to grow and the numbers today are actually reminiscent of pre-Christmas. However, this is primarily due to old games and console bundles. Once at home in quarantine, users actively buy consoles, and with them order old hits, available today at a reduced price, wanting to get to know the best representatives of the generation. There is still enough stock of old disks, bundles are available.
Separately, GamesIndustry.biz indicates that during the reporting week, Nintendo was able to put on the market a new batch of Switch consoles. It was sold out very quickly, and the company’s games also went up. So, sales Mario Kart 8 Deluxe immediately increased by 317%, which allowed the racing hit to rise from 25th to 5th place. Animal Crossing: New Horizons fixed on the third line (+ 14%).
