We’ve been able to test two Code Vein demos with the first one that has allowed us to understand a bit about the mechanics that we can then use in the second best, that is, against a boss who has proven to be very good.
After the game over of the development team we thought we could be better off with the many spending hours between Dark Souls, Bloodborne and Nioh, but that was not the case: Code Vein is a very difficult title, which makes a high level of challenge its strength, while trying to mitigate the issues and offering it a key feature, that is, the presence of an NPC.
At the beginning of each dungeon you will be able to select the companion to carry with you and these will be entirely handled by the AI, unlike what happens to the guests in Dark Souls or Nioh more recently:
The most important of the features that you will find in offering your companion is to care, because in the case of a very recurring one, you should find yourself with no energy and no life, you will receive support immediately and return to life with at least a quarter of your life.
It will be crucial therefore to try to keep ally alive, not to be able to intervene to save it, but to avoid making meat from slaughter and hence baiting it would be crucial not to run into a game virtually assured.
Both in the dungeon, but more so on the boss, support both in attack and as a healer turned out to be crucial in order to have a second and a third attempt to fight: as we said, though, the challenge with the boss is not went to the best, but allowed us to appreciate both the goodness of the product and the depth of the Code Vein battle system. Let’s start by degrees and try to understand the intricate skill system as it does.
Your blood for my survival
Code Vein puts on us two skill rings, one that can be identified as a boost to our character and one that can be defined as magic, or in any case of distance attacks: some of these, which were in total four, they were really too slow, with overly prolific animations, ready to force you to show your side to your opponent.
It is against the boss that he has tested the slowness of some of these abilities, so that they may seem to be effective at some other moment. Fortunately, a sort of arrow has turned out to be quite useful and timely, without forcing us to wait too long to take possession of our movements.
Obviously skills can not be spammed continuously, but you will have to wait for the recharge time, which can often also affect the entire skill group: for example, those that provide a boost to the character we tested one, which became our favorite in seconds, which increased the attack statistics and defense of both our character and Mia, the NPC who has accompanied us for both demos.
Once used, consuming a certain amount of blood, there was no possibility of using other power ups attached to the same ring: in short, it will be very important to pay attention to the order of use of our abilities and even the specific moment in which it is used. we do. for example, those that provide a boost to the character we tested one, which became our favorite in seconds, which increased the attack and defense statistics of both our character and Mia, the NPC who accompanied us for both the demos.
