Co-founder Quibi accused coronavirus of failing mobile application

In a new interview Jeffrey Katzenberg, which together with Meg Whitman launched a mobile streaming service Quibiaccused the application coronavirus of failure.

The application offered users a set of original programs that could be watched in excerpts in 5-10 minutes. Initially, it was developed for viewers who do not have time to sit in front of the TV for a long time and watch various shows.

However, the application was released on April 6, and people around the world are stuck at home because of the coronavirus pandemic. Just a week after the premiere, Quibi dropped out of the list of 50 most downloaded applications in the United States, having fallen to the 125th place at the moment.

It did not help that the majority of the service programs of the critics and the audience appreciated quite negatively – this applies to series and reality shows. In addition, initially Qubi content could not be watched from a TV – it was available only from mobile platforms.

Now the authors will have to develop a new strategy for which they plan to spend several times less than they originally intended. New content will appear on the service no earlier than 2023, and we can assume that it is unlikely that it will already become a hit among users.
