Japanese site 4Gamer talked to the development manager Resident evil village Morimasoy Sato… As part of the conversation, the employee Capcom revealed many interesting details about the expected horror and the history of its creation.
Game enthusiast Alex Aniel wrote out the most interesting moments of the interview, and we translated them into Russian…
- The reason for the absence of the number “8” in the title is due to the desire of Capcom to attract the widest possible audience to the game. The publisher is convinced that the continuous numbering of the franchise is a way to scare newcomers away from it.
- Initially, the subtitle “Village” was only a working title, Capcom had no plans to release the eighth installment under that name. However, at some point, the plans were revised: the developers considered the word “Village” sufficiently appropriate to broadcast the mysterious and frightening tone of horror through it.
- In the case of the Resident Evil Village setting, the defining factor for Capcom was the desire to take a noticeable step forward compared to Resident Evil 7 – the new game contains much more different horror trends and ideas. If the seventh movement was rooted in modern horror aesthetics, then “Village” tends more towards classical Gothic.
- Despite the fact that Ethan will become a much more expressive character in “The Village”, the developers still wanted to leave him at least partially “impersonal” so that players could naturally project their own gaming experiences onto him. A first-person perspective should contribute to the same goal.
- Chris Redfield’s new squad in Resident Evil Village is called the Wolf Hound and is one of the BSAA divisions under the hero’s personal control.
- During the production of The Village, the Capcom artists never thought about the exact height of Lady Dimitrescu (290 centimeters). The developers were honored to calculate it only in January – after journalists began to actively ask this question.
- One of the reasons for the appearance of the merchant in Resident Evil Village is Capcom’s desire to endow the novelty with a slightly lighter tone and organically dilute the darkest and most intense episodes.
- Creating the Village for the next generation PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S consoles, Capcom has made a significant emphasis on lightning-fast downloads – the content in the game is loaded almost without any pauses, which ensures uninterrupted involvement in the game.
- The release of Resident Evil Village on the previous generation consoles (PlayStation 4, Xbox One) was planned from the very first days of development, but the Capcom team decided to officially announce these versions only after they could be sure of their proper technical condition.
- Morimasa Sato makes a separate emphasis on the fact that if you still have not acquired new game consoles and are interested in the “Village”, then you can safely buy it on old platforms – Capcom vouches for the quality of the project.
- Initially, The Mercenaries mode was supposed to return back in Resident Evil 7, but a number of factors prevented this. In turn, the “Mercenaries” did not miss the Resident Evil Village – the developers felt that the game fits well on the action rails, even though they had to think carefully about how to implement such gameplay in a first-person perspective.
- At some point, a global pandemic almost completely paralyzed the development of Resident Evil Village. Nevertheless, the pause in the creation of the project helped the team evaluate their work from the outside, recharge with new forces and, after returning to the office, supplement the project with the necessary adjustments and improvements.
- In total, Resident Evil Village has been in development for almost four years, and Capcom began to take the first steps towards its creation six months before the premiere of Resident Evil VII.
Recall that the premiere Resident evil village will take place next Friday, May 7… And the first reviews of the game will appear two days earlier – May 5…
