Canonical started publishing instructions for migrating from Windows 7 to Ubuntu – review

Company Canonic does not lose hope to transfer at least some of the users to Ubuntu after the termination of support for Windows 7. The developers published the first part of the instructions for the most painless transition to the new OS.

According to company lawyer Igor Lyubunchik, this data should help less tech savvy Windows 7 users switch from the old operating system to Ubuntu. He also recalled that a free OS is secure, free and reliable.

Currently, the manual includes definitions and terms necessary to prepare for the installation of Ubuntu. Among them there is an OS version, numbering principles, a description of desktop environments, applications, and so on.

Attention is also paid to the fact that Ubuntu can be launched directly from a USB flash drive. With Windows this does not work out, you will need a special version of PE. And this will allow you to test the new OS without installing it on your hard drive.

The first part of the instructions also includes a description of the process of creating a backup copy of the data. And although Canonical notes that not all data will be needed for the transition, some of them are still worth copying. This applies, for example, browser bookmarks, history, logins and passwords.
