Presented the other day new trailer PS5 version of role-playing adventure with elements of survival Little devil inside was warmly received by the live viewers, but later some users noticed something in their trailer that was unacceptable, which caused a wave of criticism of the developers.
We are talking about opponents resembling stereotypical representatives of African tribes, whose masks, in turn, resemble a blackface. Twitch Streamer was one of the first to notice this. Lord balvin, other network users noticed this later.
“I was so interested in Little Devil Inside. But then I noticed this type of enemy. Brr,” the streamer wrote.
A critical portion of users agreed that such a character design is a racist and stereotypical depiction of African tribes. According to the studio, if these changes do not work, the appearance of this type of opponents can be completely changed.
“Racist stereotypes of any kind were absolutely not intentional, we did not know about stereotypical connotations and would like to apologize to everyone who may have been offended by the character design,” the studio said on Facebook. In addition, no one (including from the team) has ever commented on this design in this way. “
The developers also explained that they did not intend to create images that “refer to any real African and / or African American human tribes.”
“The main focus was on creating colorful masks, and our designers studied masks from different cultures,” the developer added. “As characters in the game, they move around in groups and use darts that paralyze when hit. We wanted to add character to the design of the mask and revive it – like the little characters Kakamor from the Disney cartoon” Moana “.
Little Devil Inside is created by a team of 12 people who began work on the game after a successful crowdfunding campaign on Kickstarter In 2015, the release date of the game has not yet been announced.
