Chinese company TCL Communications from August 31 will stop selling smartphones Blackberryafter which the brand will cease to exist. But support will be provided for two more years – until the end of the summer of 2023.
The reasons for this are not called, but they are obvious: the Canadian brand was not viable in the modern market. Note that TCL acquired the rights to the BlackBerry brand in 2016, after the company started having problems. The then BlackBerry Mobile operating system was in many ways inferior to Android and did not lose popularity outside the business sphere.
An attempt to transfer smartphones to Android OS also failed, although TCL has released several models, including with QWERTY-keyboards.
Thus, Blackberry will soon lose its key partner, after which it will be possible to forget about the brand. Is that the company will open the source code of the proprietary OS, but this is hard to believe.
