BioWare Shares Curious Dragon Age Development Secrets

Cult RPG early in development Dragon age: origins, which debuted in 2009, had a full-fledged multiplayer component – the developers implemented a fully working multiplayer mode, which almost lived up to release. BioWare representatives told a curious production secret about the famous RPG in an interview with the resource The gamer

According to studio veterans, the key factor in abandoning Dragon Age: Origins multiplayer was a banal lack of time – BioWare could not be sprayed in two directions at once, which is why the development of the game was far behind schedule.

“We cut out the multiplayer mode somewhere in the middle of the production cycle. For us, this decision was a real treat, since the multiplayer brought with it a lot of unnecessary problems, including for the single player campaign, so after its cancellation we suddenly had more resources and opportunities, “- said screenwriter Jay Turner.

It is noteworthy that the multiplayer in the franchise Dragon age ultimately did appear, but only in Dragon age: inquisitionreleased in 2014.

Another interesting detail about the early version of Dragon Age: Origins concerns the early versions of the script, which did not have any dragons at all.… When they started creating Origins, BioWare saw the game universe as a fantasy setting, where magic and magical creatures are in decline – their era is long gone. The situation changed after the project got its name by voting within the team. It turned out that BioWare is engaged in a game called “Age of dragons“forgetting to add any dragons there.

This was the starting point for a significant reworking of Dragon Age: Origins, after which the plot and setting were overgrown with new details, and the role of one of the central antagonists was taken over by the crushing Archdemon.

As a reminder, BioWare is currently working on the next major game in the Dragon Age lineup for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S and PC. It does not yet have an exact release date.
